Renee Turners’ garden in Rotterdam is not too far from the city centre, roughly three and a half kilometres from V2. The SNV community allotment was established in 1938 for working-class city dwellers, mostly factory workers, to grow fruits and vegetables on what would have otherwise been unused land. While the gardens remained active over generations, the complex has been reduced to a third of its original size, and with the pressure of urban sprawl, its future remains precarious.
