Rooted in the collective expertise of an international consortium of partners—including Ars Electronica, V2_ Lab for the Unstable Media, iMAL, KONTEJNER, L.E.V. Festival, and Chroniques—this publication encapsulates the methodologies and insights gained from over 40 XR workshops organized across Europe as part of the Realities in Transition program.

The booklet provides:

  • Guidelines and recommendations for designing and running XR workshops, including considerations for audience mobilization, technical set-up, facilitation, and evaluation
  • Tailored methodologies for diverse target groups, ranging from artists-in-residence and art students to professionals, the general public, and intergenerational audiences (Gen A-Z).
  • Workshop formats adapted to various objectives, including skill acquisition, critical reflection, community building, and the exploration of XR as a tool for thematic discussions.
  • A best practice case study: The Critical XR Manifesto Workshop, developed by V2_, which provides a collaborative framework for critically engaging with XR technologies.

We invite institutions, cultural organizations, educators, and XR practitioners to explore this booklet and leverage its insights to design meaningful XR engagements.
