The workshop was open to everybody, but the topic was primarily aimed at designers, architects, and digital artists. The workshop was part of a series of traveling ‘walkshops’ during which participants are invited to 3D scan elements of their urban fabric they wish to digitally archive. The participants were provided with a basic introduction to the practice of 3D scanning, i.e., tools (LiDAR vs photogrammetry, handheld vs satellite) and application (architecture, video games, artworks), and then, equipped with an iPad with LiDAR scanning capabilities (provided by the mentors), were sent on a 3D scanning scavenger hunt, in which they worked together to explore how a given theme is reflected in a neighbourhood. The workshop ended with the creation of a final aggregate, a formation of 3D scans put together using 3D modeling software on the spot and experiences using augmented reality. The workshop in Zagreb resulted in a A007_TheDigitalisedCity (02) aggregate to which all the workshop participants had contributed. It is stored for further analysis in the archive at whatamess.city. The attendees learned the basics of the 3D scanning practices and were encouraged to explore their urban environment in collaboration with their colleagues that resulted in a co-created digital artwork, an archive of their urban adventure.
