The full-day workshop was held on October 27, 2023, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb (HR). It was mentored by the artists Rebecca Merlic and Željko Beljan, authors of the interactive gaming installation whose avatars are based on 3D scans of actual people. The scanning workshop was open to everybody, no special skills or interests were required, but it was particularly interesting to media and visual artists, and people engaged in gaming. By being live scanned by the artists, the participants not only witness new innovative technology but actively engage in a live 3D scanning experience that transforms them into digital avatars, embodying the playfulness at the heart of Viktorija. Once the scanning process is complete, the data collected by the artists is animated and added to the collection of goalkeepers of the Viktorija game. The participants witnessed the use of 3D scanning equipment, and how their physical bodies are transformed into a 3D digital image. The integration of participants into this digital universe added a new dimension to their understanding of technology and art, blurring the lines between observer and artwork creator. The process extends beyond traditional learning, as participants playfully discover the nuances of technological tools by becoming integral components of the artwork. Since it didn’t involve actively and independently using technological tools and software, i.e., the participants had more of a passive ‘observer’ role, the workshop was suitable for a very broad audience.
