It was mentored by the musician and educator Fero Király. The workshop was open to everybody, and most of the participants were students of various educational backgrounds (e.g., architecture, communications…) with no previous coding or composing experience. This workshop was an introduction to the world of collaborative live coding using the open-source platform Estuary. Live coding enabled the participants to manipulate in real time the sound through writing code. Live coding method offered participants a new perspective on music-making, allowing them to become composers, interacting with sound in real time and shaping it through code, without prior knowledge of coding or composing. The idea was to familiarize the participants with the Estuary platform and enable them to immediately start writing simple code that is transformed into sound. The emphasis was on experimentation and joys of tinkering without burdening the attendees with overly complicated tools and coding methods. The participants learned to code their own music, and a series of audio-visual jams enabled them to learn from each other. The workshop was one of the more successful ones that we organized. Attendees were given the opportunity to perform a live coding music jam for the audience to demonstrate what they learned, and to have fun with making live music with their workshop colleagues.
