Rooted in the collective expertise of an international consortium of partners—including Ars Electronica, V2_ Lab for the Unstable Media, iMAL, KONTEJNER, L.E.V. Festival, and Chroniques—this publication encapsulates the methodologies and insights gained from over 40 XR workshops organized across Europe as part of the Realities in Transition program.

An example of a truly decentralised Metaverse
At the past online event BETACAMP, L.E.V. Festival in collaboration with the catalonian artist Carlos Martorell aka. Shoeg, created We Are The AI (RE)Synthesizers a light virtual world hosted for the web browser using A-frame and as a multiplayer VR world using the Overte software. Both technologies and platforms are self hosted and open source, and are examples of a different approach on Metaverse building, where questions like ownership, sustainability and open knowledge are taken into account.
RIT DATABASE
This tool aims at gathering different types of resources under the large scope of XR, in a common and shared space, accessible both via a summary “Maps of contents” and a visual “Graph”. Tools, channels, softwares, hardwares, networks, metaverses, and many more.

the #RIT community, this database aims at giving a rich and comprehensive overview of the resources gathered throughout the Realities in Transitions project, pursuing the goal of pooling and sharing existing knowledge as a panorama of the XR Ecosystem, according to our values.
RIT Report on XR Camps
The Realities in Transition (RiT) XR Camps were designed as dynamic and interactive spaces for peer learning, networking, and artistic experimentation in XR. Bringing together artists, researchers, and industry professionals, these camps featured hackathons, workshops, and discussions to explore the creative and activist potential of XR technologies.
The final XR Camps report compiles insights from three key events held in Zagreb, online (BetaCamp XR), and Marseille, highlighting innovative projects, collaborative methodologies, and strategies to strengthen the European XR community.
RIT Report on Artistic and dissemination events
The Realities in Transition (RiT) Artistic and Dissemination Events Report highlights five major exhibitions and events that showcased the artistic potential of XR technologies while disseminating the project’s key insights. From LEV Festival’s “Metaverse: Realities in Transition” to Chroniques Biennale’s “Virtual Environments”, these events explored XR’s role in storytelling, live performance, and interactive digital art.
The report also details the Extended Worlds exhibition at XR Camp Zagreb, the integration of immersive narratives at Festival d’Avignon, and XR’s practical applications at ARS Electronica 2024.

The Realities in Transition (RiT) Interviews Report brings together a series of conversations led by Céline Delatte, offering in-depth insights into the evolving landscape of XR art and activism. Through discussions with artists this document explores the challenges, inspirations, and visions shaping the European XR ecosystem.
