This workshop was organised on December 15th, 2023 by LEV and took place at Medialab Matadero Madrid, a place very well suited for reflections about the impact of technologies in today’s society by allowing and promoting an open and participatory environment.

The discussion that came out from the workshop went in the direction of rethinking the distribution channels for a more diverse set of artistic proposals within the frame of extended realities, but also reflected on privacy and user data protection on commercial devices as well as the importance of a more conscious use of computer graphic power in the develop of new artistic proposals.

All the participants, who came from several local communities, had the chance to express themselves through the open app, expanding the set of sentences available in the Critical XR Manifesto.”

As takeaway, we can highlight the following points raised by the participants (professionals of XR projects studios from Madrid, interested people and XR project distribution partners)

  • The problems of XR distribution and the importance of a good plan to keep the XR scene more diverse and not so focused on mainstream products.
  • The privacy issues raised by using the same headsets from the big companies.
  • The possible solutions from the design point of view for a more sustainable XR.

Through Realities in Transition, other Manifesto workshops have taken place.
