The idea of the workshop was to examine new ways and dynamics of storytelling using immersive technologies, in this case AR.
The workshop involved working in AR in the public space of Zagreb. Based on the principle of a cadavre-exquis type of spatialized narrative, each participant had to develop a spatially contextualised story fragment.
The workshop introduced simple and accessible tools for creating augmented reality such as the Hoverlay AR app that the participants used. They gained a better understanding of AR technology and its potential usages, and they had an opportunity to create a sample AR project.
Colleagues from a neighbouring art organisation participated in the workshop. They were interested in exploring possibilities of AR technology in mapping urban fabric and the building where their organisation is located.
Overall, the participants were interested in concepts, but less so in actual application/creative work.
They also struggled with the software, and weren’t independent in their work. The mentors reported that what worked best was when they took charge of the software side of the workshop and co-created with participants.
